Holohil Grant Program

The Holohil Grant Program provides transmitters from the Holohil product line at low or zero cost for endangered species research and educational work.

Applications are reviewed on a quarterly basis; due dates are the 15th of January, April, July, and August. Email your application to grantprogram@holohil.com for a chance at some or all of the $2,500 in product available each quarter.

Eligibility

This grant is open to anyone, scientists and non-scientists, from anywhere in the world.

Holohil is looking for projects that:

World Female Ranger Grant

The World Female Ranger Grant from How Many Elephants supports direct-action, women-focused conservation initiatives.

Applications for up to £2,000 are accepted on a continual basis.

Eligibility

This grant is open to all-female and mixed-gender wildlife ranger teams from anywhere in the world who are empowering women and indigenous communities to protect wildlife and their habitats.

AKC Humane Fund: Women’s Shelter Grant

The AKC Humane Fund: Women’s Shelter Grant supports domestic violence shelters who provide housing for survivors’ pets and animal shelters who work in cooperation with domestic violence shelters.

Applications for up to $1,000 per year for 3 years are accepted on a continual basis. They may be completed online or as a hardcopy and mailed to:

Eligibility

This grant is open to nonprofit organizations who:

  • Provide temporary or permanent housing for domestic abuse survivors and their pets
  • Have an established relationship with at least one nonprofit domestic violence shelter to provide temporary or permanent housing for survivors’ pets

Preference will be given to organizations that allow survivors and pets to stay together.

Allowable Expenses

Grant funds may be used for:

  • General operating expenses related to housing pets
  • Capital improvements to allow for the housing of pets

Application Requirements

All applications must include:

  • IRS Letter of Determination (if applicable)
  • Most recent financial statement (preferably audited)
  • Budget for the last completed fiscal year
  • Budget for the current fiscal year
  • List of primary sources of financial support
  • 3 professional references
  • Letter of referral from at least one domestic violence shelter (for pet only shelters)

Turtle Conservation Fund

The Turtle Conservation Fund supports conservation and research projects on endangered tortoises and freshwater turtles. Grants of up to $5,000 are available for full scale projects. Seed grants under $1,000 are also available for pilot projects or young conservationists from developing nations.

Grantees must contract with either Re: wild or the Chelonian Research Foundation to produce the proposed work. They are also encouraged to publish partial or full results in Chelonian Conservation and Biology.

Hurtigruten Foundation

The Hurtigruten Foundation supports projects in the areas of the world where the Hurtigruten Group leads adventure travel expeditions. Awards are typically €5,000 – €10,000 and usually only cover part of a project’s costs. In rare cases, they will consider covering the entire project.

Applications are due each year on May 1st and November 1st for projects focused on:

  • Endangered species
  • Eliminating plastic waste and ocean litter
  • Supporting local communities

North American Wetlands Conservation Act Small Grants Program

The North American Wetlands Conservation Act Small Grants Program supports on-the-ground projects that further the the goals of the North American Wetlands Conservation Act.

Applications for $1,000 to $250,000 with a required 1:1 match in nonfederal funds are due by October 10, 2024 at 11:59 PM ET.

Jason Debus Heigl Foundation

The Jason Debus Heigl Foundation was founded in 2008 in memory of Jason Heigl and his love of animals. They provide funding to programs that address animal cruelty and overpopulation. At this time they are focusing on programs that implement their Namaste Spay and Neuter initiative.

Applications can be submitted through their website at any time. No minimum or maximum award is listed.

Namaste Spay and Neuter Initiative

Namaste Days are free spay/neuter clinics for cats and dogs. After the clinic, the Heigl Foundation will reimburse the cost of surgeries, pain medications, and other pre-approved expenses, such as vaccinations.

Wildlife Acoustics Scientific Product Grant

Wildlife Acoustics offers eligible products from their bioacoustic research tools through the Scientific Product Grant. Applicants may request up to $4,000 in products and software.

Applications are reviewed on a quarterly basis and up to $12,000 in products dispersed per quarter. Applicants may also submit a request for only a Kaleidoscope Pro software license of which an unlimited number are available each quarter. Submissions are due by August 15, 2024 or November 15, 2024.

Eligibility

This grant is open to applicants associated with nonprofit, nongovernmental, charitable, and educational organizations.

Products cannot be shipped to Belarus, Crimea, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia, Sudan, and Syria or anyone who will take products to those countries.

Application Requirements

All applications must include:

  • A description of how the project will advance scientific knowledge and contribute to long-term conservation
  • An explanation of how the grant will significantly contribute to the success of the project
  • A detailed description of expected outcomes and how they will be evaluated
  • A plan to begin the project within one year of the award
  • A letter of recommendation
  • A copy of the organization’s certificate/tax exemption letter showing tax-exempt and charitable or educational status

Eligible Equipment

Not all Wildlife Acoustics products are eligible for this grant. Applicants may request:

Shipping costs will be covered by Wildlife Acoustics, but grantees are responsible for any applicable broker fees, duties, or taxes.

VegFund Community Event Grants

VegFund is an international organization dedicated to providing assistance to vegan advocates around the world. They hope to promote a vegan lifestyle, with no animal products or exploitation, to all people on Earth.

Community Event Grants fund the most important work of promoting a plant-based lifestyle. Sponsored events are generally single day or no more than a week long.

Applications are accepted on a continual basis and the review process typically takes a month. Applicants outside the United States should expect their review time to be longer due to U.S. Treasury Office of Foreign Assets Control requirements.

Eligibility

Applicant

This grant is open to applicants from anywhere in the world who are:

  • Nonprofit organizations
  • Individuals 18 years of age or older
  • Vegan or partnering with a vegan/vegan organization

Project

All projects must be:

  • Focused on promoting or educating on a vegan/plant-based lifestyle
  • Vegan with no animal exploitation in any aspect of the project
  • Open to the public

Food Sampling

Offering food samples is one of the best ways to expose non-vegans to a plant-based diet. VegFund has many helpful resources to help with planning a successful event providing a taste of alternatives to animal products.

Paid-Per-View

PPV events feature short but impactful videos about animal agriculture. Recommended videos as well as other resources are available.

Film Screening

Longer documentaries can make an even greater impression on the viewer. Grant funds may be used to pay licensing fees and rent a venue for the screening.

Conferences and classes can provide an opportunity for learning even more about the benefits of a vegan lifestyle. Applications for longer events should be submitted through the Special Events Grant.

Evaluation

When assessing applications, reviewers will ask:

  • Is there a well developed plan already in place?
  • Is there a full budget?
  • Is there a specific timeline?
  • Is there a team in place to carry out the project?
  • Is there a well-defined, non-vegan target audience?
  • Does the project convey a powerful message on the benefits of a vegan lifestyle?
  • Are there well defined goals and a plan for evaluating success?

William E. Dean III Charitable Foundation

William E. Dean III established his Charitable Foundation in 2009 because of his passion for helping others. Since then, the Foundation has given $3.3 million in grants to organizations all over the United States.

Applications are due every year by July 1st. Awards are typically $5,000 – $10,000. The Dean Foundation is managed by Bank of America Philanthropic Solutions.
